Bought parcel in October, still have no key!!!!!

Information and discussion of S.E.P.A. related issues.

People don't realize that the post office box is checked only once a week (since it is located in St. Cloud and Lauretta and John live in Holopaw - the PO Box is close to 24 miles away - one way!) These people do not get reimbursed for time or gas, so they try to cover everything when they go to town, which is one day a week. That is when the mail box is checked, any keys processed from the prior week is mailed, etc. I remember Lauretta telling me that she mails keys once a week when I first called about getting keys for our property.

When we purchased our property (Tax Sale), I called the number on the gate and spoke with Lauretta to find out what we had to do to get keys. She advised me what paperwork she needed to process our request and, after submitting everything, we received our keys promptly (within 1-2 weeks).

If there happens to be a problem with the paperwork (missing information, no ID, etc), then it does take longer but usually, as long as there is a phone number listed, I believe Lauretta calls the people to tell them what's wrong. If you were calling the house number, they do not have an answering machine but very rarely do they not answer, that's when to try the cell number.

I also know that there are times when the key(s) can be retained by a seller -- if they own other property in SE and the keys can be assigned to that parcel; if that were the case, then the purchaser would receive new keys (once all appropriate paperwork was received) -- but that is something Lauretta would be able to tell to everyone involved.

Now, an update: The latest news on the Occupation License was that the Environmental and Zoning Departments had it for review, so hopefully, they've had a chance to do that and we will hear something positive this week! I am planning on calling tomorrow to see if I can get an update.

It is not the job of the new landowner to retrieve the keys from seller!! Get on it now!!!

It is up to the old landowner to provide the new landowner with the key he already has for the property. If a key has never been issued for the property then they deal with Lauretta with regards to getting a key.

What would they do if the old landowner never provided a deed to the new landowners for the property as well?

The old key goes with the property when it is sold, providing a key was issued to the properties old landowner.

If we had a parcel number we could check to see who has the old key.

I just spoke with Lauretta and she said Richmond was supposed to send paperwork for this parcel and it has not been received yet. If you care to call Lauretta yourself you can reach her at 407-973-8310

Yeah, that makes perfect sense if you think about it.
If I sell you my car, I, as the seller, have to give you the title and the keys to it. Same thing goes with buying a house, or in this case, land. Not sure why it is so difficult to understand (if the original seller did in fact have keys).

Otherwise, how would you feel knowing that you just paid $ for a piece of land and keys to the gate when the original owner, took your money, and still has keys to the gate and can access it any time they want for free? (Not saying that is happening here in this case)

You would cut the chain or lock and replace it with your own. Maybe that is what they should do and make the rest of us beg for access. [smilie=ban-hump.gif]

Hell they probably already sold them on Craig's list for like 300 bucks each. I say we don't give out any more keys at all. Day riding pukes. Good job jack. Your so sweet

Dawn I don't think you get it, did this guy meet the previous owners out there to look at said property then they should have his key or keys.SOMEWHERE ALONG THE LINE HE NEEDED TO KNOW WHETHER IT WAS A DRY OR WET LOT.iF THE PREVIOUS OWNERS TOOK HIM IN THEY HAVE HIS KEYS.iF HE BOUGHT THE PROPERTY BLIND THAN THANK RICKY THE DICK.I know you had problems getting your key but read what country girl is saying.Did you look at your lot,the previous owner probably had your keys also. JMO and if you look at previous deed you will SEE how many people were on deed THAT EQUALLS AMOUNT OF KEYS ISSUED AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECEIVED IN LAND TRANSACTION

[smilie=huh.gif] I'm confused. You must not have read the post. Cause I was clearly giving Jack a hard time not you. Clearly this might have been a clue
(Caution Jack Recreation in progress)
I am sorry you are having issues. I know Lauretta and I am sure she will get it resolved for you. Unless there are already keys issued for the lot you bought. Then the problem is with the person who sold you the lot. If that is the case I would post the persons name and the lot number on here so every one will know he is stealing keys. Just my [smilie=2cents.gif]

Mad, I did buy my lots blind because a friend of mine went and rode out there with a friend of his and loved it so I just bought it unseen just like I bought my River Ranch lot unseen because there is no where to legally ride in Palm Beach County. I don't camp so what the lots look like didn't matter. The guy who sold my lot never got keys issued for that lot because he owns several other lots out there and didn't need the keys for that lot issued and I had verified that with Lauretta before I purchased that I didn't need to get the keys from him. But I had been posting for a month before I purchased and the guys on here gave me the heads up on what was needed to get the keys and then it was confirmed with Lauretta before I overnighted everything to her.

Those emoticons are quite porny! Especially the 4th one over. I missed that one when I was looking at them! I don't think I am old enough to look at those! haha

Did anybody read what Lauretta wrote at the bottom of the first page? This means the original poster needs to call Lauretta (her phone number is in this thread) and find out what is going on. Maybe the paper work was lost in the mail or he didn't have all the paper work.

NO PAPER WORK - NO MONEY - NO KEY end of story.

Lauretta

As far as the old owner giving up his keys... maybe he owns several lots and he sold one of his secondary lots that have never had keys issued on it. I have several lots but only one key so if I sold one of my other lots I wouldn't have a key to give to the buyer either and it's 100% legal and with in the property rules.
Don't blame me, I voted for McCain

When I bought my property 16 years ago the person whom I bought from gave me a key and when I gave my uncle and friend a plot on my deed I had no problem getting them keys and never had a problem with the keys or getting new ones when there has been a lock change. In short be patient and you shall recieve what you need remember you are not the onley one they need to deal with. That's my say on this topic I'm out.

Just my 2 cents... I honestly wonder if what this person is saying about the keys is legit...As Loretta said, there is no info, so something smells a little fishy.... We don't know who this person is that started this post, for all we know they don't own anything.... Just my opinion....

Besides if someone really couldn't get a hold of Lauretta, which I find really hard to believe, then why not email her from this site. Only 2 post, if all of this were true, I think you would see more than just 2 post.... And there are always a better way of handling a situation. Why wait so many months before coming onto the site.

Just smells a little fishy.... or like someone actually fishin...

or better yet, a little like......[smilie=bsflag.gif]
